Kevin With An L
“At the end of that night Danny asked me ‘how was your first event?’ and my response was ‘I think that’s the most fun I had in my life.’”
- What does your DJ name mean?
- When I introduced myself to a friend the first time I met him, he couldn’t understand my name “Kelvin,” after saying “Kelvin” multiple times, he kept misunderstanding so I said “Kevin with an L.” His response was “Ohhhhhh Kevil!” Ever since then I’ve been known as Kevin with an L or Kevil.
- What was your relationship to electronic music in the past?
- I never really listened to EDM until freshman year of college at U of A through mainly PAPhi bros, and the first event I went to was with Danny in 2013 to Markus Schulz. At the end of that night Danny asked me “how was your first event?” and my response was “I think that’s the most fun I had in my life.” The rest is history.
- Why and how did you pick up DJ’ing?
- I picked up Djing back in 2019 but only practiced for a few months and dropped it because I didn’t really have much time to focus on it. I seriously got back into it last year mainly because I just always enjoyed the music/for fun. Recently I’ve been more heavily invested because my gf also loves djing and EDM, so it's been a fun hobby to share together.
- What is the best set you’ve ever seen?
- The best set I've seen is Gareth Emery during Danny’s House a few months ago. Overall, a lot of the songs he played was nostalgic and I remember looking at Brandon saying “I’ve never heard him play Sanctuary live” and literally 10 seconds later he dropped it. Other than that he dropped some hard shit that took me by surprise so that was pretty lit.
- What is an underrated genre in the current electronic music landscape?
- I think trance in general is pretty underrated. In today’s industry and generation most of the crowd likes head-banging shit, and mainstream basic things. I’ve always loved trance because it’s calming and has great vocals. But I feel like today people just want music to listen to while getting fucked up.
- What are you planning to play for us at Twenty:Four?
- I’ll be playing a mainly trance and techno, with some random shit in between.
